What to do When Your Feet Hurt

by | Apr 25, 2017

Your first step in relieving soreness in your feet is to give us a call and request an appointment with Premier Podiatry Group. We can identify the root cause of the problem and then create a treatment plan to properly address it for you. The good news is that most conditions can be resolved without needing surgical intervention.

In the case of sore feet—and, naturally, depending on the condition and its severity—our customized treatment plan for you may include any of the following options:

  • Orthotics (either shoe inserts and additional padding to increase arch support or custom orthotic devices)
  • Over-the-counter medication to reduce pain, such as ibuprofen or aspirin
  • Foot massage
  • Stretching exercises, especially for your Achilles tendon and plantar fascia
  • RICE method (rest, ice, compression and elevation)
  • Water-based exercises such as swimming or aqua aerobics
  • Warm water foot soaks
  • Multivitamin supplements

An advanced, nonsurgical treatment option we are proud to offer at our Ebensburg, PA office is laser therapy. This treatment uses concentrated beams of light that penetrate down to damaged tissues. Once there, the laser stimulates and enhances natural cell repair and growth. This is a safe, effective way to address soft tissue injuries in the feet without needing to use surgery.

The most common root cause of sore feet is overuse. If you lead an active lifestyle—and we certainly recommend you do—or have no choice but to be on your feet for work, you may benefit from shoes that offer extra support, foot and ankle stability, and protection. Not sure what the right pair would be for you? Come in and discuss this with us before purchasing your shoes!

Many of the treatment options listed above can also be used as preventive measures. For example, performing stretching exercises before bed, right after getting out of bed in the morning, and before and after any type of exercise routine can prevent sore feet.

If you have gained some weight for reasons other than pregnancy, you can also try to prevent sore feet and additional symptoms by losing weight in a healthy way. Eating right can also give your muscles and bones the nutrients they need to stay strong and healthy.

When sore feet are slowing you down or keeping you from your favorite activities, our team at Premier Podiatry Group is ready to help. For additional information, or to schedule an appointment with our Ebensburg office, simply give us a call at (814) 472-2660.
